We offer horseback riding lessons.
Rountree Recreation has a beautiful riding facility with arenas and trails for riding.
Our classes are offered year-round to beginner and intermediate riders. Our lessons focus on trail obstacle and pleasure riding. Students learn to control and guide their horse over, thru and around various horse safe obstacles. While a large portion of our students are western riders, but we also offer English riding as well. Students learn several aspects of riding and horsemanship. Students also learn to groom, saddle, lead, and care for his or her horse. Students get the opportunity to ride several horses. Our lessons are perfect for students interested in show, trail riding, future horse ownership, or just a summer of fun!
We progress at the students speed. We take our time with timid and nervous riders and encourage setting small goals while our bolder riders may progress quickly.
Our lessons are taught in small groups of 2 - 4 riders. Classes are 45 minutes long but sometimes do run longer. Our classed are offered to children ages 3 and older and adults. Classes are broken up into age groups - an adult does not ride with a child unless it is a parent/grandparent/friend.
All you need to participate are long pants (jeans or riding pants) and closed toe shoes. Boots with heels are highly recommended. We provide helmets and gloves for the first few lessons, but do recommend students acquire their own eventually.
During the summer lessons are offered on Mondays only.
Our instructor, Kimberly, is a qualified, certified riding instructor and focuses on teaching safe fun horsemanship. She has over 10 years teaching experience working with many different students including special needs riders.
Our horses are safe and sound and enjoy their work. sizes range from medium ponies and to large horses for the comfort of our young riders, yet care carry an adult rider with ease. We will also teach on your own horse.
We will host and attend local schooling shows. Participation is at the discretion of the student, instructor, and parents. This is not required. If a student chooses to attend he or she must have riding boots with heel and a helmet. Jeans and shirt with collar will be required. Parents will be expected to assist with the shows.
Classes are taught by Kimberly (Rountree) Whitehead.
