Cheryl Rountree
I have been involved in competitive swimming on and off since becoming age group swimmer with the Amateur Athletic Association. Although my favorite strokes are butterfly and back stroke, I swam breaststroke, freestyle, and backstroke at the Masters’ National Competition in May of 2010.
While visiting Okinawa Japan I had the honor of swimming a one mile open water swim with the Green Berets.
I have been coaching the Rountree Recreation swim team for 6 years. In that short time we have had a very impressive showing year after year at the District 5 meets for Georgia and the State swim meets. Each year I have kids that work hard and under my direction are winners! For several years I have had kids win or place in the top 8 for the state of Georgia. For 2010, 31 kids from Paulding went to District and 13 went on to state with all finishing in the top 17 out of over 100 qualifiers in each event. Their were 2 top 3 finishers.
Not all people are going to be top finishers but can grow from having fun and participating in an activity. I enjoy helping all kids accomplish their desirers.
I am certified as a USA Swim Coach and hold a level 2 certification under the American Swim Coaches Association. I have been teaching swimming since 1972 and became a Red Cross certified water safety instructor in 1978. I have maintained that certification since I was first certified. I also have my NSPC Certified Pool Operator license, Current Emergency First Responder, and American Arthritis Association certification. I am a certified Open Water Scuba Diver (with PADI) and Boat and Sail Boat international license.
I have enjoyed teaching swimming and water safety for a very long time. This has been a love and a passion that I have had the honor of doing. I teach about 700 people per year with a large range of skills and fears. I am very good at teaching all levels and can accomplish a lot quickly due to a lot of experience. I recommend most to continue swimming to build on and reinforce the skills that they are learning.
Family; I have been married to Clive who lives in San Antonio, Texas for 30 years. We have 3 children. Branan has been in the Coast Guard for 10 years and is currently stationed in Afghanistan. He will come home in June and will then be stationed as a river tender in Tenn. Kimberly is married to Jeff Whitehead and teaches horse riding lessons. Travis is a student at Kennesaw to become a high school chemistry and physics teacher.
